The Little Red Hen by Jerry Pinkney

A new twist on an old tale. Pinkney uses graphite, ink and watercolor in this visual feast; he uses color words in the text to match the color of the animals. Great for pre-ks and kinders to learn color and color words in this wonderful update.

I Lost My Tooth in Africa by Penda Kiakite

When Amina visits her family in Mali, she loses a baby tooth and according to custom places it under a clabash and receives according to Mali custon, a chicken and rooster. THe excietement over the loss of her tooth and the anticipation of the tooth fairy visit are very real. Amina then experiences the hatching of baby chicks from the rooster and chicken, but must leave them in Mali when her visit is ended. Based on a true family. The colorful ceramic tile illustrations give an authentic feel to the story.

When Amina visits her family in Mali, she loses her tooth and according to custom places it under a calabash and receives, according to Mali custom, a chicken and rooster. The child's excitement over the loss of her tooth and the hopes of the tooth fairy visit are very real. Then she experiences the hatching of baby chicks by the pair. Based on a true family story which happened to the author's sister. The colorful ceramic tile illustrations have an African feel.
